Ibiza lose in Murcia to a 90th minute penalty.

Ibiza lost to a last minute penalty against Real Murcia in a match which began at a high pace with a lot of possession for the home side in the Ibicenca area. The best chance of the first half went to the Murcian team in the 20th minute, Álex saved Ibiza with a great one on one save. Minutes later the UD Ibiza goalkeeper was called into action again, just getting a fingertip to a dangerous shot from the edge of the box.

Antonio Méndez’s side got into dangerous positions but failed to create clear-cut chances. Fobi in particular was active in getting up and down the right wing and putting balls into the opposition area. On one such foray the Murcia half, the young Ghanaian managed to get to the by-line and pull the ball back towards the penalty spot, but his cut-back was intercepted by a defender just before it reached oncoming the Ibiza forwards.

The second half saw a slower tempo as the heat began to take its toll on both teams. There were few chances for either side and Ibiza defended resolutely against the Murcia onslaught. However, just as it seemed inevitable that the game would end in a goalless draw, the key moment arrived. A penalty was awarded to the home team for a Nuñez handball. The penalty was converted and Real Murcia took the three points. A tough defeat for Ibiza, who now set their sights on next Sunday’s home game against Recreativo de Huelva.
