Ibiza were unable to pick up points against Badajoz in a game where Ibiza missed the chance to take an early lead from the penalty spot. Provencio, one of the January signings, made his Ibiza debut. The match began positively, with Palop’s side in control of possession and getting forward in numbers. Cirio latched onto a through-ball and was brought down in the box. The penalty was awarded and Toni Abad was sent off for the home side. However, Cirio’s penalty crashed off the bar and the game remained goalless.
Ibiza had another good chance minutes later. Rodado rose to meet a corner and his powerful header looked bound for goal, but the Badajoz goalkeeper tipped it onto the bar and over. Despite being a man down, Badajoz started to look more dangerous down the wings, and in one such attack Higón crossed a ball from the right and Eder Díez finished at the back post to open the scoring.
After the break, Ibiza were on the front foot while the home side sat deep and looked to counter. Palop brought on new signings Jordi Sánchez and Giner to add spark in attack and try to get the equaliser. Higón had a chance to kill the game off but Lucas made a fantastic fingertip save to keep Ibiza in it. Raí was brought on for his debut with 20 minutes left to play, and he almost connected with Giner for a late goal, but it wasn’t to be. Ibiza great run of results comes to an end. The team now turn their focus to next week’s game at Can Misses against Real Murcia.
