Preseason has come to an end. Ibiza could not win the Trasmapi trophy. Formentera, playing in front of its home crowd, put on a good performance. The home side scored on the stroke of half-time. Juanca provided the winning goal with a good long-distance shot. As tends to be the case when playing at the Municipal de Sant Francesc, the windy conditions played a factor in the match.
Ibiza was faced with the task of having to respond to an early injury to Moun. The Senegalese midfielder had to be replaced less than ten minutes into the encounter. Gianluca came on to replace him and had a great opportunity shortly after the opening goal. He made his way into the box and fired a shot which ended up being deflected.
In the second half, the local team became more comfortable in its play with the score line in its favour. In the 54th minute, Juanca found Fassani whose shot just missed the post. It was Formentera’s best chance until then and came minutes after Ibiza had made 4 substitutions. Germán came on for Lucas in goal, George Lucas and Kike López entered to shore up the defence and Javi Pérez took his spot in midfield to try and give the centre of the pitch some more tenacity.
With ten minutes left in the match, a Sibo header and a shot by Walter rekindled Ibiza’s hopes of finding an equaliser. In the 86th minute, the referee disallowed a goal scored by Garrido who had drilled a ball into the back of the net after a good piece of play initiated by Arranz. The Ghanaian, however, was in an offside position which kept the score in the favour of the hosts. Shortly after, Garrido stepped in to stop a Formentera attack, but the challenge saw him receive his second yellow card and was sent off.
It was the end of the game which also saw Ibiza’s eight-match preseason come to a close. On Sunday, 25 August, the sky blues start their second season in Second Division B playing away against the reserve team of Unión Deportiva Las Palmas.
