Ibiza remained unbeaten during ten rounds of league action. This series of positive results started back after the team’s visit to Celta B, the other loss recorded in away trips to Galicia this season. In what was a very physical and tough match from the outset, Pablo Alfaro’s men fell short by the smallest of margins. Racing de Ferrol was the expected tricky opponent which managed to continue its upward trend after its win last weekend.

The match was a tale of two halves, quite literally, with Ibiza having the better of the first forty-five minutes before the break. The islanders played some refreshing combination football, but were not able to break the deadlock against Racing’s defensive backline of five defenders.

As both teams returned to the pitch for the second half, Racing was the side which did so on the front foot. On the back of having made a change to its line-up, the home side took the lead through its captain Joselu after surprising Ibiza’s defence.

Ibiza tried to wrestle back control for the remainder of the match and came very close to doing so with a number of chances to Cirio, who had come on for Caballé on the hour mark. First, Ibiza’s captain fired a shot off from within the box which hit the woodwork. Minutes later it was Cirio again who nearly snatched a draw at the death for Pablo Alfaro’s squad in a last ditch effort before the final whistle where Ibiza had an arguable penalty disallowed after Javi Pérez was brought down in the box. Next up, Ibiza faces Sporting B at Can Misses where the Sky Blues will attempt to restart a good run of results with a win on home soil.
