His left foot is packed with talent but Álex Machuca knows that this is only of real value if you combine large amounts of hard work to the innate talent. Developed in the youth academy of Real Madrid, Rayo Vallecano and Leeds United, Álex Machuca joins Unión Deportiva Ibiza with a huge desire to be successful. This intent was on display as part of his official unveiling as a sky blue player which took place at the OD Ocean Drive Hotel.
“Our objective is to go as far as we can. To do this, we need to work hard every single week, to focus on one match at a time, and to put in a lot of effort. Above all, I am a hard working player. I know that I am joining a club that is growing and has a very clear plan and idea regarding its future. Ibiza has very good players and there will be plenty of competition”, said the youngster from Mósteles. Machuca is already familiar with Group 1 of Second Division B having played last season on loan at Burgos. His main concern in recent days centred around recovering from discomfort felt in the knee which saw him receive treatment from the club’s team of physiotherapists.
Machuca, who is only 21 years old, was flanked by Amadeo Salvo and Fernando Soriano during the press conference aimed at presenting the new signing. Both the club’s president and sporting director know that in Álex Machuca the club have secured the services of a promising young player who has the potential to grow and develop at the club over the coming years. “Bringing in talented young players like him is synonymous with thinking about the future. His arrival is great news for the footballing project here in Ibiza”, declared Salvo prior to wishing the player “the best of luck”.
Attacking midfielder or winger
Soriano defined the recent signing as a “very classy” midfielder, which, Machuca himself complemented by stating that he likes “to rush forward and shoot from distance outside the box”. The youngster, who hails from the Madrid region, can also be used as an attacking midfielder or winger, a versatility which fits perfectly with the club’s recruitment policy of having “a balanced squad in terms of age, height and right/left-footedness which give the manager a range of options to choose from in matches”, explained Soriano.
The sporting director also used the press conference to highlight the importance of the affiliate agreement reached with Sant Rafel which allows the club to place future talents into the Third Division. These young hopefuls take part in the training sessions of Ibiza’s first team and are available for selection by Pablo Alfaro when the need arises.
It’s only been a few days since young Álex Machuca arrived on the island, but he already feels very comfortable in his new surroundings. That said, Can Misses is the perfect stage for him to showcase his footballing talents and fantasy to the Ibiza faithful.
Welcome to Ibiza, Álex! We’re thrilled to have you on the team!
