The national team of Equatorial Guinea has added Esteban Orozco to a pool of players to be part of the qualifying rounds for the World Cup 2022 which is organised by the African Confederation. The Ibiza right-back has been nominated by his country’s federation as a reserve for the first phase of qualification. Equatorial Guinea will face South Sudan at the beginning of September in a two-legged elimination playoff in order to qualify for the next stage of qualifiers which will be made up of groups of four national teams each. Should there be any last minute changes to the squad, Orozco would be called up to take his place in the squad.
Orozco was born in Zaragoza and grew up in Sevilla, but having the citizenship of Equatorial Guinea through his biological mother he is elegible to be called up by the African nation who he first represented in 2018. Orozco is 21 years old and this summer signed for Ibiza. The defender joins the club from Utrera having also played for the youth teams of Real Betis, a club he represented in Second Division B as part of the reserve team. This season he forms part of the young group of talents that will play for Ibiza’s affiliate Sant Rafel. He and his teammates will be watched closely under the expert eyes of the coaching staff as they will compete in group XI of the Third Division.
