Gonzalo de la Fuente (Burgos, 1984) was surprised to receive an offer of a Third Division club. The central defender had just spent two season with Second Division side Albacete as well as fighting for promotion prior to that with Ponferradina and Racing de Santander. He soon realised that saying “no” to Ibiza’s offer would be quite difficult. “Based on the talks we had and how Amadeo explained the project to me, I soon became very interested. When you have a family, you become more reluctant to move too often and it’s because of that that I was looking for a club that was pursuing a long-term and serious project. I love being part of this ultra competitive squad. Here we don’t evaluate things on a continual basis, every week is a new test and challenge you must pass in order to play on Sunday”, explains Gonzalo. The team’s most veteran player is in his second season with the Sky Blues. As of 22 January, he forms part of a select group of players that have represented the club on more than 50 occasions. He reached the milestone in the match against FC Barcelona in the Copa del Rey and surpassed the figure in the most recent league fixture against San Sebastián de los Reyes.
