Ibiza’s player with the most amount of minutes played this season will remain at the club for another season. The club’s football department and Javier Pérez Mateo (Cabanillas del Campo, Guadalajara, 1995) have reached an agreement for the extension of a contract until 30 June 2021. The midfielder has played in 26 of 28 league matches so far. Bar one occasion, Javi Pérez has been a starter in all matches and almost always – 22 times to be exact – remained on the pitch for the full 90 minutes. Pablo Alfaro’s confidence in Ibiza’s number 17 is evident. To the 2249 minutes played in Segunda B, Javi Pérez also added the three knock-out encounters of the Copa del Rey to his overall minutes played, all as a first-team regular.
“To renew my contract with this club is a proud moment for me. I’m extremely happy and delighted to stay here another season. I’m treated so well here at the club, we have an incredible fan-base and I feel at ease every time I play at Can Misses”, says Javi Pérez. Renewing his contract is a great moment to take stock of his time spent with Ibiza so far: “These eight months have been incredible both on a football and personal level. I’m really enjoying this phase of my career. We’ve had some very beautiful moments so far this season both in the league and Copa del Rey where we played against Albacete and Barcelona”.
Javi Pérez will always remember the historic clash against the Catalan giants, scoring against one of world football’s powerhouse clubs in a match that Ibiza dominated throughout more than one hour. In the league, Pérez has scored on two occasions so far as well. “Javi is a very consistent player. We’re not only very pleased with his performances, but also with the way he has identified himself with the club, its project and fans. He’s clearly growing as much as the club is growing at the moment”, says Ibiza’s sporting director Fernando Soriano.
Javi Pérez joined Ibiza from Valladolid Promesas where he spent the last two seasons. According to the player, one of the key reasons for his good performances has been his ability “to adapt really well” to his new home and surroundings. “I love living on this island and play for a very professionally run club. The club is full of professionals who make life very easy for you. The coaching staff, the club directors as well as all of my teammates have made my time here really comfortable and special. I hope to wear and defend this jersey for many years to come”, explains Javi Pérez.
