As anticipated before departing for Asturias, Pablo Alfaro and his team encountered a tough Real Oviedo B side “that competes really well and always remains alive in a match”. Those were the words of Ibiza’s head coach at the post-match press conference in Oviedo. “We have to accept the draw, but we certainly are not entirely happy with the result“, explained Alfaro.

The analysis and conclusions drawn by Ibiza’s coach included the recognition that football matches can take unexpected turns, especially when facing opposition as “dynamic and strong without possession” as Real Oviedo’s reserves: “We were able to take the lead on the stroke of half-time, in the second we then we also had a numerical advantage: it looked as though the match would become a bit easier, but that wasn’t the case as Oviedo never gave in and kept fighting“. Despite the fact that Ibiza had the majority of chances and controlled the match as the away team for large parts of the match, Alfaro acknowledged that the home side from Asturias played its cards very well. “Today, the opposition was very good at dead ball situations, moments when there usually is a balance of play“, the coach stated.

Having faced a team that was “very difficult to break down” will serve as a valuable test prior to the home fixture next weekend against Atlético de Madrid B at Can Misses. “After narrowly missing out on a point against Baleares, today we managed to once again pick up a point which we want to make count next week by getting all three“, said Alfaro, who praised his players’ desire and attitude by looking to win the game at all costs until the very end.
