Ibiza returns to Pontevedra today to play the remaining 74 minutes of the first round Copa del Rey cup tie, suspended on the 18 December 2019 due to heavy rainfall. The match will be resumed and completed today starting at 8.30PM at the Estadio de Pasarón. The Sky Blues travelled to Galicia yesterday with one sole objective: win the match called off as a result of a heavy storm with the score locked at 0-0. “We’re going there with the intention of winning the match, although we know that our opposition will make things very hard for us. We will start the match in minute 16, something that is out of the ordinary, we’ve had to travel which they didn’t; they played on Saturday while we did on Sunday… On top of that, we’ve got a number of players unavailable due to illness, but despite all these factors, we’re going to the Pasarón in order to do well”, said Pablo Alfaro who will have to approach the match without Álex Machuca, Fran Carbia and Diego Mendoza. Called up to the squad for the trip to Galicia was Karim, one of the stand-out players during Sant Rafel’s stunning comeback against Mallorca B on Monday.
Alfaro also underlined the importance of the cup competition for his squad this season: “It really took a lot to qualify for this competition, so we will definitely not throw it away. Our goal is to play a home fixture in the next round on Saturday at Can Misses against the Second Division side Albacete”.
To get there, the head coach knows that his side must overcome a tricky Pontevedra side in what promises to be a complicated match. Despite having inconsistent results of late, the team from Galicia has plenty of pedigree and talent to cause problems to any team it faces. It shapes up to be mouth-watering encounter which is not to be missed. That’s certainly the case for Daniel Pades, the member of the Corsarios fan club who travelled as the solitary fan to support Ibiza on 18 December 2019 and now returns having been invited as a special guest by the club to experience this historic match.
