Rubén González was born in Rio de Janeiro 24 years, but grew up in Bilbao. After coming through the ranks of Basque football and a stint at Atlético Baleares, the left-footed defender chose to sign for Unión Deportiva Ibiza to help shore up the defence. “Rubén’s experience of having played in the league and also his enthusiasm to identify himself with our project were big factors when deciding to bring him onboard” said Fernando Soriano during the player’s official presentation. Rubén can play both as a central defender and a left-back. The club’s sporting director has plenty of confidence that he will be able to fulfil both left-minded roles perfectly as part of the defence.
“Ibiza needs to be known for having a great club”, said the new signing in his first words when addressing the press. “When you surround yourself with good people and good football players, getting along is really easy. A preseason is really important to start the league well, win games and become a force at our home ground. In defence we need to be rock-solid as a unit“, explained Rubén González. In addition, the Basque signing knows that what ultimately counts is to “do well on the pitch” with the “good squad” that the club is assembling as part of an ambitious project that, one match at a time, will look to go further and further.
