Rodado gave Ibiza the lead and Chavero sealed the win for Palop’s side.
Ibiza got a hard-fought win against UCAM Murcia at Can Misses. The team responded to last week’s defeat in Cartagena with a great all-round team performance. Rodado opened the scoring with a powerful header in the 33rd minute, and Chavero sealed the 2-0 win after an incisive team move in the 66th minute of the game.
The opening minutes of the first half showed two evenly matched teams with both sides looking to get the ball down and play. On the quarter of an hour mark, the visitors had a chance to take the lead but Ibiza’s debutant goalkeeper, Lucas Anacker, stayed strong to win the one on one. Rodado made no mistake when his chance arrived on the 33rd minute. A deep cross into the box from Javi García was met by a perfectly timed jump and header from the Balearic striker to put Ibiza into the lead before the break. The second half was similar to the first, with Ibiza constantly threatening with good work down the wings. Fobi burst down the right wing and got to the by-line, and pulled back towards Rodado, who played a perfectly weighted first-time lay-off for Chavero. The midfielder drove the ball across the ‘keeper and into the bottom right corner to make it 2-0 to Ibiza. Andrés Palop’s team saw out the rest of the game and could perhaps have got a third. The only blot on the copybook was the sending-off of Verdú for a late second yellow card. Ibiza now turn their focus to the next fixture against Jumilla.
