Melilla: a classic team of Segunda B

Melilla is a classic team of Segunda División B having featured uninterrupted throughout the last 33 seasons in the said category. The team got promoted in season 87/88 and has not looked back since, positioning itself usually in the higher parts of the standings. Melilla has played five playoffs trying to get promoted to the Second Division, with the last playoff played last season. In season 2018/2019 Melilla was eliminated by Atlético Baleares during the second round of promotion playoff, but the team is also known for its Copa del Rey clash against Real Madrid.

The last match up between Ibiza and Melilla dates back to round 38 of last season. The sky blues took all three points from its visit to the Álvarez Claro stadium: the goal scored by Jordi Sánchez left Melilla without options of finishing second in the table, assuring that Ibiza would enter in the draw of this year's Copa del Rey. In the match played at Can Misses, Melilla found it tough as well as they lost 2-1 to an Ibiza side finding its feet in Segunda B.

With both teams meeting on Sunday for a new encounter, Melilla travels to Ibiza after recently making a change to its coaching position with Manolo Herrero replacing Víctor Cea on the bench. Herrero already trained Melilla two seasons ago. Last year, he coached Real Murcia before returning to the team he finished in fifth place with.
