Get to know our next opponent: UP Langreo

Unión Popular de Langreo was founded in 1961 in a merger between Racing Club de Sama and Círculo Popular de la Felguera. With both clubs merging, football benefitted in a region where mining is one the principle economic drivers and home to 66'000 people. Langreo got promoted to the Spanish Second Division in 1962 and 1970 and managed to remain in the category for eight seasons, securing a tenth place finish in 1967 as its best league position.

Currently, the population of Langreo has been reduced to nearly half of what it used to be and despite Unión Popular reminiscing about its achievements in the Second Division, football remains an important feature of this region of Asturias. The motto of the club is clearly defined. Tamos xuntos nesto (we're in this together) stands for the mantra of a club that returned to Segunda B in 2018 after having spent many years in the Third Division.

On Sunday, Langreo will take to the fortress that is Can Misses in a match that will be somewhat special for its head coach. Dani Mori, coached on the Balearic islands during many years having been at Menorca and Mallorca. It was in Ibiza, however, while coaching Peña Deportiva, where his possibly best Balearic memories stem from. During season 2007/2008 he managed to secure promotion to Segunda B with the team from Santa Eulària and ten years later, during his second spell at Santa Eulària, he coached the team in the Segunda B competition. The objetive at Langreo is to consolidate the team's status in a division after securing its survival in the league last year.
