1-2. Atlético Madrid B run out close winners in a tight contest at a windy Can Misses
Atlético de Madrid B took the spoils in today's match against Ibiza in a lunch time kick-off at Can Misses. The 'rojiblancos' ran out winners by a scoreline of 1-2 in a match which was conditioned heavily by the fierce wind gusts lashing the island. The visitors played the first half with the wind in their favour and scored the opening goal after just three minutes thanks to Darío Poveda.
Ibiza tried to get right back into the match without wasting time or opportunities, but the islanders found it difficult to deal with the tricky weather conditions. Despite this challenge, the sky blues enjoyed a number of good chances. In the eighth minute, Javi Lara came close to scoring the equaliser with a fierce shot. Grima and Rubén were next in line, but they too came short. Atlético B, meanwhile, tried its best to create more danger by means of a series of corner kicks.
Taking the initiative at its home ground, the sky blues looked to make good use of the ball and went in search of the equaliser. Both Rodado and Fran Carbia had their efforts blocked by the visitors' Solano.
Carbia had two more efforts saved before the half-time break during which Atlético de Madrid B's coach, Nacho Fernández, was given his marching orders as both sides made their way to the dressing rooms. Ibiza came out in the second half with added intent. With fifteen minutes played in the second half, the reward finally came for the home side. Morillas combined with Javi Lara in a quickly taken corner and Ibiza's midfield maestro put in an exquisite cross for Quintanilla, who, unmarked in the box, was able to head the ball into the back of the net.
With the introduction of Diego Mendoza (replacing Carbia), Ibiza continued its attacking runs against its opposition. Rubén spectacularly attempted to score with an overhead kick before the visitors from Madrid scored their second goal with a strike by Óscar.
Pushed on by its vocal home crowd, Pablo Alfaro's side persisted to look for the equaliser. 2891 spectators eventually left Can Misses disappointed, but satisfied by the fight and willingness shown by a team that never gives up until the end.
